One codebase, two grant paths

GPL-3.0-only is the default. A specified recipient may request a separate written Apache-2.0 grant for a specified Jikji release or commit.

Unless a separate written grant says otherwise, Jikji is distributed under GNU GPL version 3 only. The repository carries the complete license text and SPDX identifier.

BY WRITTEN GRANT

Apache-2.0

The copyright holder may grant Apache 2.0 rights to a named recipient for an identified release or commit. The grant is not automatic and does not apply to versions it does not identify.

Attribution

Derivative distributions identify Jikji as the original work

Apache 2.0 grants include Jikji's NOTICE. Covered derivative distributions must preserve that NOTICE attribution in a form permitted by section 4(d) of Apache 2.0.

Required NOTICE identity: This product includes software originally developed as Jikji by Jioh L. Jung and the Jikji contributors.

Why the alternative grant starts with a conversation

The author uses early grant requests to understand real deployments, operating environments, and support requirements before opening the licensing model more broadly. Contact is part of requesting the alternative grant; it is not an extra condition on GPL use and does not modify Apache 2.0 after a valid grant is issued.
